Ward Hoppits
Welcome to Mill Meadows. You are in the field named Wards Hoppits, which is a narrow strip of land leading from Southend Road opposite Lockers Hall.
This is an area of secondary woodland which has grown naturally on former open ground. Most of the tree species are oak which will have grown from acorns that originated from veteran trees, of which they are several fine examples here. Other tree species include sycamore, hawthorn, hazel and goat willow.
On the other side of the stream that passes under the bridge are some fine ash trees although these are at risk of ash dieback disease.
